Home to some of the most spectacularly rugged country in Australia and within 6 hrs from Sydney or Brisbane, the upper Macleay valley near Bass Lodge and surrounding area provides a wealth of opportunity for 4WD enthusiasts. If you want to test your skills crossing wild rivers or driving steep inclines into gorge country this is the place to be. You can self drive take a guided tour or tag along with an experienced local. Basically, Bass Lodge is a fantastic base to start your 4WD adventure. There are plenty of options in the immediate area around Bass Lodge. these include
Drive upstrem on the Macleay River. Experienced drivers may cross the mighty Macleay River at Bass Lodge and continue upstream
Drive to Halls Peak and enter one of Australias most challenging National Parks, complete with a 22degree decline into the Chandler River
Tour Point Look-out, Jeogla and Wattle Flat (highland trout country)
Drive to Bellbrook or visit Slim Dusty's hometown or the famous "pub with no beer"

4WD through Styx River National Park and then to Wollomombi to take in the spectacular Wollomombi falls (2nd highest waterfall in Australia). You may stop at Wollomombi General Store for a supplies, a quick drink (licensed) or refreshments before returning (dropping nearly 1000m in elevation) to Bass Lodge.
Full Day Tour
4WD through Styx National Park to Point Lookout to take in one of the most magnificent views to the coast (looking down over 1000m of the ranges). Continue to the Dutton Trout Hatchery for lunch. Continue onto the spectacular Ebor falls and then to the Wollomombi falls. You may stop at Wollomombi General Store for a supplies, a quick drink (licensed) or refreshments before returning (dropping nearly 1000m in elevation) to Bass Lodge.
